'Free with your mats' question

In the trade channel I frequently see people saying ‘such and such enchantment, free with your mats’, and I’ve reached the stage that if I want to skill up I’m going to have to do this.

But how does it work? Does the ‘buyer’ simply trade the mats over first and trust that the enchanter won’t run off laughing, or do the mats go in the ‘to be traded’ window at the same time the to be enchanted item goes in the ‘not to be traded’ window? Will the mats be used from there or does the enchanter have to have a supply in stock?

Also, I recently enchanted a spare pair of gloves with +5 Mining. What does this do? I already know it doesn’t allow me to learn smelting skills at a higher level than my base skill, but does it allow me to mine higher level materials? Does it improve what I might get from any particular node?

Thanks guys.|||Quote:

Yes, this is how it's normally done.

It adds 5 to your mining skill. I.e. your mining skill is 100, put on the gloves and it's 105. Basically you'll be able to mine new types of nodes slightly faster as you have 5 points less to level up :)|||Cheers Dalixam, very helpful. Given that the whole exercise is based on trust I'm surprised I don't hear more people complaining about getting ripped off!|||Quote:

Just to be completely picky....It allows you to mine higher nodes EARLIER, not faster.|||Quote:

That's why you have people link the recipe in chat. It's possible to spoof that, but takes far more effort.

On top of that, you can always check the armory if someone has

a) enough skill/the skill

b) gear/reputation in evidence of them picking up some of the more exotic enchants.|||Quote:

Or, just ask your guildmaster/officers. They can often give you a reference of someone who is trustworthy enough to take 100-200g worth of mats, and actually do the enchant for you.|||There is also a lot of "social control" in this game, meaning that, whenever someone pulls a certain number of scams on other people, his name will be known and essentially blacklisted among the community.

Scams do happen, but not as frequently. If you want to be certain though, it's always best if you have a guild enchanter, or if you befriend one.|||Quote:

I think Redhole was asking how he should handle offering "free with your mats" enchants. He wasn't looking to get something enchanted.

Unfortunately, they haven't fixed it yet so enchanters could use mats directly from the trade window.

However, whenever I was skilling up on "free with your mats", I would usually have 1 set of the necessary mats on me for the enchant I was offering. Then I would just tell my customer to put the mats and the item to be enchanted in the trade window at the same time. Told them my mats would do the enchant and their mats would replace my mats for the next customer.|||What I've seen people do with an expensive enchant, is make a screenshot of the trade window before hitting 'accept'. That way they can provide a GM with proof of having given the other person the items, should they become the subject of a scam.|||Ditto. Screenshots are your best friend.

Also, I have found that if someone advertises that they are only looking to level, it's assumed that no tip is needed. If you advertise "free with your mats" without any note about leveling, that you will get tips for your service of enchanting.

Safest way to do/get enchants is from a seasoned guildy.
