I have several toons, but none that are leatherworkers. I'd like to try the profession and have tons of leather saved up.
My 70 hunter took engineering instead.
My 50 shammy will prob go resto so no use for lw there.
What about rogues?, or feral druids?. I might start one of these toons next, would either greatly benefit? Any other classes?|||I doubt the LW's epic sets are better than the pvp reward gears and they are way too expensive to make.
The primalstrike set has no gem slots and you need 3 primal nether, 14 primal might and 18 Heavy Knothide Leather to make them.
IMO, the leg armor and drums are the key uses of LW. However, Blizz nerf the drums in the Wrath.|||Depends on what you want. If you want to end up raiding, then you're far better off to get LW and make the special sets (like Primalstrike for Rogues).. PvP sets aren't good to start raiding with. Of course, it's possible, but it's just pathetic to start PvE with PvP gear - same as trying to rule the battlegrounds with your PvE gear. Too many differences to make it worth it.
So in short, if you want to raid, take a leatherwearing toon like a Rogue or a Druid and get them the special sets. If you want to PvP, then you might as well not bother with LW at all and just grind your PvP set.|||Quote:

PVE. Heroics and raiding. I'm into PVP a little with my disco priest, but not really my favorite.
So which gets the most benefit from lw?, rogue or feral druid (tanking set probably).|||Quote:

Well, my bf is a raiding Rogue, and he really benefitted a lot from the Primalstrike set.. but as for the rest, he didn't find LW that useful. Sure, he could make armourkits and a few drums, but that was about it. Now that he got badge and ZA gear to replace his Primalstrike Set, he dropped LW in favour of enchanting (for the ring enchants mostly). But until then, that set was the best he could get.
As for pre-70, I've got a 62 Rogue and I find that some of the things crafted from lw are really nice for me. For instance, at mid-30s there's the Nightscape Headband/Tunic, and at around 60s there's the Thick Draenic Set.|||Primalstrike Vest

PVP gear
2 Yellow Socket 2x (+4 Hit Rating and +4 Agility)
2 Red Socket 2x (+8 Agility)
Hit: 8 (gems)
Agility: 102 + 24 (gems) = 126
critical strike: 52 + 4 (gem bonus) = 56 = (2.7%)
attack power: 120
Stamina: 149
PVE Primalstrike
Agility: 73
hit: 12
attack power: 256 + 40 = 296
Stamina: 92
Formula: 1 Agility = 1 Stamina = 2 Strength = .1% Crit. = .2% Dodge = .13% Parry = .13% To Hit = 2 Attack Power = 5 Daggers = 4 Any Resistance = 5 Health/5 Sec. = 50 Armor
The agility difference is 126 (pvp) - 73 (Primalstrike) = 53 agility = 106 attack power = 5.3% crit
The pvp gear would have 120 + 106 = 226 attack power and 5.3% + 2.7% = 8.0% crit.
PVP gears vs Primalstrike:
(-70) attack power
(-4) hit
+ 8.0% crit
+ 57 stamina
PVP gears = 14500 + 17850 + 11794 = 44144 = 45 hours (avg 1k honor per hour) = 1 week grinding.
Primalstrike LW 375 = 14 x 125g (primal might) + 3 x 60g (primal nether) + 15 x 5g (Heavy Knothide Leather) = 2010g = 8 days doing 25 daily quests.
Kara and heroic have been nerfed in each patch. The Primalstrike set has not been updated since TBC but the pvp gears have been upgraded from S1 to S4. Rogue PVP gears/weapons are not bad for heroic or kara and some pvp gears/weapons are even better than the crafted ones.
It is really up to you to decide if you would spend about 2000 gold + level LW to 375 for the +70 attack power, +4 hit and -8% crit. If this is the begining of TBC, the Primalstrike is definitly the better choice.
My 63 enhance shaman has the LW at 365 and most gears I crafted were replaced by outland quest rewards or some world drops from my 4 other 70s. I think someone mentioned about the drums were heavily used in top rated raiding guilds and many hardcore raiders changed professions to LW due to the need of drums.
Tailoring, on the other hand, can craft T5 items that are far more better than the PVP gears.|||Thanks for the great info. Looks like rogue would gain the most benefit, though still nice for a feral druid while not tanking.
I'll have to think it over, i'm not that big a fan of melee dps, i'm already looking forward to respeccing my shammy out of enhancement once she reaches outland.|||Only a few of our warlocks got LW, for drum rotations. Go figure .|||I wouldn't level LW at this point on any toon. I levelled and made the Primalstrike set since, at the time, it was better than anything you could get going into Kara. You can rival it with all kara gear and surpass it with ZA gear now.
The problem is that most of the other good LW patterns take BT mats (the Swiftstrike set) and the patterns are BoE drops, not from a trainer. LW simply doesn't give the boost that tailoring does. If this was patch 2.1... yeah level it. But with Wrath around the corner, I'd wait and see what they release for new patterns.
irogue - don't have time to do the math, but did you factor in the set bonus on the PS set?|||Quote:

I figure it's because the usefulness of LW drums? lol.

Yes.
Set bonus: Increases attack power by 40.
PVE Primalstrike
Agility: 73
hit: 12
attack power: 256 + 40 = 296
Stamina: 92
The total crit 8.0% from pvp gears might be a little be off but the purpose of my post was to show ppl how to compare the gears' stats and the efforts to acquire those gears.
