[:1]I'm new to wow (only been a week) and also a lvl 26 warlock mainly soloing quests;
I'm am currently 200 in Fishing, Firstaid, Herbalism and Skinning.
Are these the best professions for a soloist - newbie?
I've been selling the hides via the AH but banking all the herbs with the idea of changing to Alchemy instead of skinning, is this a good idea?|||first of all, welcome to wow! herbalism and skinning are good money making professions for new players however, if you are thinking of going into crafting then going alchemy instead of skinning is a great idea. the potions you make are always useful for any class, as well as the elixirs you will make. I would also recommend getting the cooking secondary skill, since the food you can make will give you nice buffs to increase your stats as well.|||Just to straighten out the terminology a bit ...
Fishing, cooking, and first aid are all secondary skills. Everyone can have all three without it interfering with getting other skills.
All the others -- herbalism, mining, skinning, alchemy, inscription, enchanting, tailoring, blacksmithing, leatherworking, engineering, and jewelcrafting -- are professions. You can only have two professions.
Alchemy is a good profession for anyone to have.
...Ren|||Hey thanks for the replies, sorry I didn't mean them all as primary professions.
What I actually meant to say was; Is it worth 'buying' the secondary skills to level quickly or just do them as and when I go along?
I should mention I've kept all the fish too, just don't have enought time to cook them all :)
And is it worth dropping Skinning and change to Alchemy as a Warlock?|||Since there is no drawback whatsoever to having secondary skills, there is no real reason to not learn them. First Aid is pretty much a must, certainly as a warlock where you can effectively use it in combat since your pet can take the hits while you channel it. Cooking along with fishing gives very good buff food, certainly at later levels.
And as Renata and midillusion already said, Alchemy is good for every class, so just go for it.|||Tailoring is another good option for a Warlock, so you can make your own clothes. I think the best combination is either a gathering profession (for money) or Enchanting (so you can create stuff with Tailoring and disenchant it with Enchanting).|||the only problem with tailoring is trying to balance it with first aid (both use cloth), which as a warlock you'll want to have because of life tap.|||Quote:

Choose whatever professions please you. The three secondaries are valuable and produce things you'll need and will use yourself. Gathering professions make money for low level characters and will help you to gain some income. Crafting professions are easy and inexpensive at first but most eventually cost you money for materials and recipes/schematics. So it's really up to you. The only other thing I'd offer is the suggestion that Alchemy and Enchanting will offer some help you can use at a low level and save you having to buy potions and the like.|||Quote:

Yeah that's true.|||Thanks once again for the replies.
I had thought of Tailoring but don't have the bank space left to collect the mats so have been selling them via the A/H. Will have space soon though, as I think I now have enough herbs for 200+.
I've decided to just try and keep firstaid level inline with my H/P usage since I can't train past Artisan till my character level catches up?
I just wish they would let you have more skills or perhaps more only after you have maxed the others. Dropping a skill feels like losing a valuable limb lol, it's probably because I've been spoilt playing another similar game for the last 4 years.
