Cookaclysm (Cooking from 425 to 525)

[:1]This post is to give you a brief introduction to Cataclysm cooking and the follow up to Wrath of the Lamb Kebab.

This time there are 4 key phases to progress through.

Getting Started (425 to 465)

This is the easy phase. Skill ranges 425 to 440 (Darkbrew Lager and 450 to 465 (Highland Spirits, Starfire Expresso) can be achieved entirely using vendor purchased ingrediants. The tricky bit is 440 to 450 which requires either lots of Wrath cooking, or some Blackened Surprise.

Phase 2 (465 to 477)

Technically this starts at 450, where the first full tier of Cataclysm cooking begins. There are 7 recipes that carry on until they turn green at 477 so are worth making until that point.

Phase 3 (477 to 500)

There are just 3 recipes for the next phase. Learnable at 475 and going green at 497. You might want to time a cooking daily to help push you through to the next stage, which starts at 500.

Phase 4 500 and onwards

There are 10 recipes learnable at 500 that take you up to 525 (go green at 520). There is also one recipe that has the same skill profile but is learnable at 450 (Lavascale Minestrone. Those are your basic finishing recipes. Don't forget to make the most of Chocolate Cookie between 505 and 515 (vendor purchased ingrediants) and don't be afraid to use the apparently rubbish Fish Fry. It is green when learnt at 500 and goes grey at 510 but it is the only use for Sharptooth.

Other Stuff

Unlike Cataclysm, you don't need to worry about which ingredients to use. While some items can be used in multiple recipes, they are typically only found in one skill range. The exception is the Lavascale Catfish, which has a Phase 2 recipe and the previously mentioned multi-phase Lavascale Minestrone.

Cooking Feast

There are some new feasts to look out for. The basic feast is the Broilled Dragon Feast which can be learnt when the guild has placed 5,000 feasts. It is green when learnt at 500, but only turns grey at L525 so It can be used to level cooking if you are need a lot of feasts made. The buffs provided is 60 stamina + 60 other.

Goblin Barbecue is a nice little feast that also provides a 60+60 buff. Made by engineers but usable by anyone with 475 cooking.

The ultimate feast is the Seafood Magnifique Feast. This requires your guild to complete the fish 10,000 pools achievement. Unlike the previous feasts, it gives 90+90 buffs.

Cooking Quests and Recipes

Pre-450 recipes are learnt from trainers. The majority of recipes are purchased for 3 (or 5) cooking tokens. You get one token each time you complete the daily cooking quest in your faction's capital city. The quests all involve running around the city, gathering spawning ingredients, and upon completion award 1 or 2 skill points in addition to the cooking token. Tokens are capped at 10, and any not spent on recipes can be traded in for a box containing random cataclysm meats (2 tokens per box).

And Finally

I haven't mentioned Fortune Cookie or South Island Iced Tea They are learnable at 525 and instantly grey. Feathered Lure has also not been included. It covers the 440 to 455 range (as yellow), but is not currently implimented. There are the usual achievements. Iron Chief is for learning 200 recipes and their are two Cataclysmic Gourmet achievments for creating 15/30 of the 32 possible foods.

Venison Jerky is a new low level recipe that has been added to make Iron Chief achieveable by everyone. It is not required for any Cataclysm achievement.|||great info - many thanks for posting this|||The "easy" bit between 450 and 465 is currently very hard. I have no idea where to find the cocoa beans needed for the cookies, and the highland pomegranate needed for the highland spirits can only be purchased by a L85 due to the new rules that only let you buy level restricted items if you mean those restrictions.|||Outstanding!
