best professions for a mage?

[:1]what are the best pros for a gnome mage? im lvl 14|||Tailoring and enchanting.|||Well personaly i dont really like enchanting... I'm no WoW master or anithing but:

If this is yer first and futur main character you might want to wait up befor starting enchanting because enchanting means alot of investment at the begining... maybe later on it makes alot of profit (i wouldn't know) but at first you have to sacrifice the green items you get as loot to disenchant and all that.

That's my personnal oppinion and maybe I'm completely rong|||Would def recommend tailoring, lots of cool stuff now. Plus end game epics / big bags etc. The spellfire and shadoweave sets are as good as a lot of mages will ever get.

I chose a gathering skill for my 2nd, on the basis i can make my armor, i need some cash now. Enchanting would have been good, but our guild already had two high level enchanters when i started wow, so i don't miss it.|||Two gathering proffesions until you get level 60ish and then drop one for Tailoring. You need mount money and Tailoring probably isn't your best bet.

Tailoring is a must have at 70 but it means little to nothing at low levels. If you really need a new item, you can buy it with the extra money you are making by having the extra gathering profession. But buying items that will be obsolete in a few levels isn't too smart imo.|||im gonna go with tailoring/enchanting also

They are the best professions to have, maybe not to make money but best to have to gear yourself up.|||Quote:

true but leveling it is just a pain in the butt. its probably easier to level it as you level. plus the bags are always nice.|||I agree, for a mage is best Tailor/Enchanter, u dont have to level ASAP Enchantin, and easily without investment can reach level 70 skill just Disenchantin the stuff u craft with yer Tailor Profession. Mats from Disenchanted items sells well, and usually get higuer profit then if not Disenchanted, also the plus that if mats dont sell AH no charge.

From arly levels to 60 you will be changin constantly your gear, that means lot of incomin mats.|||I thought Herb/Alchamey was best for mages? I'm a lvl 26 mage I've made some money selling herbs and potions plus the potions I actually use like Trolls Blood, Healing, Fire, etc... Is Herb/Alchamey better for lower lvls and tailoring better for higher levels?|||Go with mining/skinning until you are 60ish then drop one of them for tailoring. I am not one to advise to level enchanting as I believe the return on it is very minimal. There are only 2 bop enchants that I know of and they are very small. You can get all your gear enchanted by someone with 5-10g per enchant tip which even if you get all your gear enchanted 10x is far less than it would take you to level. You will NOT be able to DE soulbound items. That is the #1 drawback. But honestly, when an item vendors for 7g and de value is 11 that isn't much difference, especially if you take into consideration what it costs to level enchanting AND the loss of income from a gathering profession. Any friendly enchanter in your guild will be more than glad to DE boe items for you i am sure. When I log in each day I have no less than 7-10 items to de for people in my mailbox, just part of being friendly with the guildmates.

I would suggest tailoring/mining. Mining is a good profession for $$ and many of the materials you will need for tailoring high end items will come directly from your efforts in mining (primal fire anyone?) Anyhow, thats my 2 cp.
