Inscription review and basic info

I decided that I wanted to learn more about inscription so I got on one of my alts (who conveniently happened to be an herbalist) and went and trained it. It looks pretty intereesting. The trainer offeres a variety of recipes at skill levels either 5, 10, or 15 above the previous set so you can frequently move on to something new. My thoughts so far are that it is a much easier to level prefession than tailoring or enchanting...probably even blacksmithing.....being that you can't even give away the products of those professions at low levels.

I hit level 91 skill just on my stash of herbs that I had been very slowly building up. Maybe a total of six or seven full stacks. I didn't follow the guide posted here; it was very intuitive.

PROCESS

To perform inscription you first need a Virtuoso Inking Set and the appropriate parchment type, available at the vendor near the trainer.

by using the Milling skill on a stack of 5 herbs, you can crush them into pigments, occasionally getting two types from the stack of herbs. The level of herbs you can mill goes up with your skill in Inscription, this has not been a barrier to me so far.

The pigments then can be combined into the different inks which you learn from the trainer.

MAIN FEATURES

GLYPHS, people have been talking about these, they can improve/alter your skills in some way, blah blah blah

SCROLLS, as in scroll of Agility, Scroll of Stamina, these are the very same scrolls that drop randomly or can be bought from the Darkmoon Faire merchant

VELLUM, these are parchments that you can give to an enchanter to allow him to place an item enchantment for future use by a third party. You just get the recipe from the trainer and make them the same way.

SCROLL of RECALL, I hadn't heard of this feature before so it's pretty interesting. You can create scrolls that will teleport you to the place where your hearthstone is currently set, but it does not trigger the cooldown on your hearthstone, it instead uses a separate 20 minute cooldown. These are not soulbound but requires 25 Inscription which is practically the same thing.

MINOR INSCRIPTION RESEARCH, this is the only way to learn how to make a minor glyph (this is why you are probably not seeing many on the auction house). This skill will use some of your materials and randomly create some scrolls and give you a chance to learn a new minor glyph. You can do this once every 20 hours.

TOMES/BOOKs, these are off-hand book items with equip and sometimes on use effects, Available starting at 110.

CARDS, these appear to be like the Darkmoon cards but there is not a lot of information available other than "collect the full set to receive a reward"

LEXICON OF POWER

This floating book gizmo is required to install your glyphs once you have purchased them. It is found near the Inscription trainer. The scribe can actually work anywhere, the Lexicon of Power is only required to USE glyphs. Simply stand near it, it is not necessary to click on it or anything.

I thought it would be helpful to provide a brief summary so non-scribes could understand the profession better. I hope this helps and please let me know if anything has been left out.|||Thanks, just the info I was looking for.|||Quote:

Above 40 and there is a chance of failure on them. The first time I used one on my scribe I wound up near crossroads instead of Undercity. Additionally I don't think it is the same as your hearth stone, I think it teleports you back to your race's capital city (I'll have to double check again).|||Quote:

So enchanters can now sell their enchants on the AH ?

Any idea what category they fall under ?|||Quote:

haha. instead of buying good gear on the AH, then enchanting them, then reselling it for a decent amount, i can just... enchant the vellum instead and sell that. did i get that right? someone correct me if im wrong.|||I've seen scrolls in the AH with Mongoose on already...they were in the 'Consumables' tab, then under 'Item enhancement'. Not got round to making any myself yet though, as my realm is down. Yay.

I did see the vellum used to create the enchantment scrolls for sale, but can't remember what tab they came under in the AH - I plan on looking into it a bit more once I can get back on. iirc, the particular vellums (vellumi? Velluminums? Meh.) are level-graded similar to the enchants themselves, insomuch as for a level 35+ enchant you need a more costly vellum than a low-level enchant, etc.

I've said vellum too much, it doesn't seem like a word to me any more now...need a lie down!|||Quote:

-At Inscription 200 you learn Scroll of Recall II which works reliably up to level 70.

-It does go to where your hearthstone is CURRENTLY set, not to where you home was when you made the scroll, I've tested this. (sent me to Auberdine not the capital)

They are a little misleading as it will say the location of your home, which will then magically change when you change your home. It really should say "sends you to your home location"|||Quote:

Note! This means you can send an enchant to your alt. So if you HAVE the enchant you want for an alt... you can actually do it yourself now.

Note, though, that you need the mats for the enchant... so while you used to be able to say "Mongoose, your mats, 25g tip" if you want to sell Mongoose as an enchant you need to risk the mats and hope it sells for the cost of the mats plus a markup.|||i see vellum in good demand. =]|||Server pop seems to be having a radical effect on glypth prices, on high pop servers you can get them for peanuts, as all the people power levelling try to get back at least a few gold, wheras on small pop servers their selling quite well I hear.
