Hey guys,
Not so thrilled to be posting about this topic. I've been leveling my hunter, and I'm sure one of the primary thoughts for people is that Leatherworking would be wonderful for the hunter. I'm nearing the area in my LW enough to where I can choose what path I want to take. I've looked at the paths, and I'm really not satisfied with my original choice of LWing.
Unfortunately there aren't many items that are for a hunter (Post 40 = mail armor). There are a lot of leather items that I could equip as temporary, as I really shouldn't be taking many hits at all as long as I'm playing the character right. It would still be nice to be able to craft mail items that were not strictly for Shaman's.
Now I come to this forum looking for advice. There are a few things that I can do.
1) I could keep LW / Skinning. I know I will be able to make Armor + Stamina kits in the future. Do I keep LW strictly for this reason?
2) Keep LW, using only leather armor with Agility until I find quest drops with better +agi and mail.
3) Keep LW, hopefully waiting for some decent (I know there are some rare items that are mail + agi that we can craft now) items to come out of WotLK.
4) Get rid of LW, possibly picking up Engineering?
What are your thoughts? This has been a constant battle for me. I like to pick professions that are suitable for their characters. Engineering is beneficial to both a rogue, and a hunter as well as other classes. One thing that bugs me is I'm not sure I want to pick up mining on more than one toon (my shadow priest has Mining + tailoring), or have that one toon go around and farm everything.
There's a lot of conflict going on with me and professions right now!|||as wolk is just round the corner i cant give a view on whats to come. but leather working is poss one of bet trades a hunter could have. its not brilliant as you lvl up but at 70 its great for some of the gear you can make.
i know lvl 70 clothies doing t5 raid content that have dropped tailoring and warriors that have dropped blacksmithing, where as a few hunters i know have taken up lw just for the bop patterns in raids
also with a lot of easy to get paterns in lw you can make a nice suply of money crafting gear for he ah|||dragonscale leatherworking creates mail items suitable for hunters. have a look at these options before you decide. it would be a shame to give up on something you have already invested a considerable amount of time and money in. and remember, agility is not the be all end all of hunter stats. you are only as good as the mana that can support your shots.|||Definitely look at some of the higher recipes in dragonscale LW as rvalarian suggested before making a decision to drop it. Yes a lot of the mail pieces / sets are stam + int but the higher level ones also have sockets.|||As above, esp the note about Wrath. At max level is where the crafting really starts to shine and there may well be good items for hunters there in Wrath|||They don't appear to be that bad, the AP is nice, however I thought Agility would be more important? What other items are out there in the world that would be better for me to acquire? I think I may continue to work leatherworking, however it's still a huge decision if I am not happy with it if I want to bail and powerlevel engineering or something. For now I will be sticking with it though to see what kind of return I may get.|||yea the lower level dragonscale, even the level 60 dragonscale stuffs kinda suck, as they were meant for pre-tbc. look at the level 70 stuffs and you might like it. also, leather kits do make a lot of moola. leatherworking bags, drums, armor kits, and riding crops. thats all i can think of right now. i know my friend who's doing leatherworking says business is slow, but if you skin, then that's how you make up the rest of your money. sell the raw mats as opposed to making something. its more profit.|||1) Don't take LW or any crafting profession to make money. Much easier to take a gathering profession.
2) Powerlevelling a new profession now might be pricey or cheap - depends on the AH action on your server.
3) The patterns available now shouldn't be your concern, look at the stuff new in Wrath. The epic 70 patterns were meant for endgame in TBC, but of course 70 isn't endgame in Wrath. It depends on how badly you want to level vs leveling a profession, but the crafting professions really are worth it for what you can make at max level.|||well, i am sure they "suck" if you do hardcore instancing and PvP perhaps, but some of us will never see ber-epic-teir-five-thousand gear. these blue and purple craftable items look pretty good to us common folk.
