[:1]I read somewhere that after 33.3 it would be easy to switch your Engineering spec from one to the other. But after a lot of reading online, I've found little about doing this. I have a level 465 Goblin Engineer. I'd like to switch him to Gnomish, but don't know what would happen then. First of all, how does he make the switch? If he does switch, does he have to unlearn Engineering altogether and start over from scratch? If he doesn't, does he still keep all the schematics he learned as a Goblin Engineer or does he lose the ability to make those? Any help would be appreciated.|||Hm. Good question actually. Been a while since I changed professions on characters and even back then Engineering was dodgy.
However, with Alchemy I just went to the guy that taught me the mastery. In your case, that'd be Nixx Sprocketspring in Gadgetzan. See if he gives you an option to unlearn it, in which case you can get the option to get the other mastery from the Gnomish Engineering trainer (either in IF or Booty Bay iirc).
If he fails to give you the option, trudge on the Steamwheedle and check out the book in Narain's Soothfancy's apartment.
If you get the choice, you won't unlearn your recipes. You won't be able to craft the Goblin ones though.
If you don't, you may have to unlearn engineering entirely before getting to switch.|||Quote:

I asked a guildie who's a high level Engineer and he says pretty well the same things you do. He thinks that I'd need to go back nearly to the start of Engineering to make the change (probably to 200 where I think you choose your option). Or, worst of all, start over from scratch. And when I think of the slog I've just been through, getting this high - the costs of materials and the like, I think I'm going to wait until my level 62 Gnome can do it all in Gnomish. At least he'll have the advantage of having the level 80 with Goblin Engineering and Mining able to get lots of materials for him.
The things the guildie suggested as a help were pretty good: make all the items you need/use/want for Goblin that can be used by both before you switch; find an equally high Gnomish Engineer and make a deal to swop items each of you can make with him.|||From wowwiki:
"Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Gnomish Engineers and Goblin Engineers can now switch profession specializations for a fee.
Details[1]
* Read the book Soothsaying for Dummies which is on a table in Neutral [45] Narain Soothfancy's house. He lives in the northern part of Steamwheedle Port, on the northern coast of Tanaris (western continent of Kalimdor, Azeroth). Pay the 150g fee to unlearn your current specialization.
* To learn another (or the same) specialization, two different techniques seem to be needed, for different players. One is to read the above book a second time and you will be offered a choice. The second is to do the quest sequence (beginning in Ratchet) for the specialization you desire. "
Seems easy enough :)|||Quote:

Interesting. I must tell my guildie friend this.|||Quote:

Yup, but that was the old way for swapping other stuff too, which is why I wasn't 100% sure.|||Quote:

As I said before, when I think of the amount of gold I spent on buying materials to level him, plus the amount of time my other characters spent gathering things to help, I just can't go through that again!! Instead, I'm going to put the same gold and gathering into levelling up the Gnomish Engineer. He's in Honor Hold, so has access to a trainer, and I'm sure I can do it as quickly as I did the Goblin guy. Then I'll have one of each. I now have the Goblin portable mailbox, Moll-E, and would like to have Jeeves as well.
I still think Engineering of either sort is one of the most amusing professions available. I just wish so many of the creations weren't limited to use by other Engineers.|||I agree with it being the most fun. One thing though - Moll-E and Jeeves aren't limited to Goblin or Gnomish only. If those are your reasons for switching, you'd better save yourself the hassle!|||Quote:

Hmmmmmm, interesting. I can't find Jeeves in the list of things he can make at 465. Is the schematic a drop, then? Maybe I'm just going blind from all that mining and bashing on the anvil and had better look again.|||Quote:

Jeeves is an rare schematic from Ulduar mechanical mobs or an even rarer drop from any Northrend mechanicals. You have to kill them, loot them and then use your engineering skill to "salvage" parts from them. If you're not raiding Ulduar I suggest killing those mechanical gnomes on the mechanostriders around the Terrace of the Makers in Stormpeaks.
Be prepared for a long farm.
